Shay Aslett is a born & raised Provo native and long time resident of Historic Downtown Provo. Growing up in South Provo, Shay graduated from Provo High School. He went on to play soccer in college at West Minster & UVU where he graduated with his BA in integrated studies.
“Growing up in Provo I always had the strong desire to get out of this place and go and find all the places better than Provo. The more I have traveled the more I have come to appreciate what a rad place Provo is to live and raise a family.”
The family values that have made Provo great are worth preserving and protecting. Shay believes that it is Provo’s culture that makes it attractive and competitive to families. Fostering that culture are his main focus and efforts as he serves Provo.
One of the many aspects of living in Downtown Provo Shay and his family love is the connection to the mountains as well as all the local businesses within walking distance. We love the vibe of downtown Provo.
Shay works in the recovery industry, coaches soccer at Provo High School, and loves sharing his pirate ship tree house and the Fourth of July traditions with the neighbors in his neighborhood.
My goal is to keep Provo a place of belonging. We are so fortunate to have many people move to our city from other states or other countries. I believe strongly that each person who moves here, enriches our city with their talents and beauty. I will foster the attitude of belonging here in Provo.
As a lifelong resident of Provo, I understand the importance of supporting the residents here. The taxpayers of Provo are the driving force behind the City. It is my belief that when we put the taxpayers first in all of our decisions, we will come out on the right side.
Having lived in Provo my whole living in a clean city has always been something I have appreciated. Growing cities sometimes lose appreciation for how having a clean a city is contributes to the attitude of pride and stewardship of the people there. I will continue to be a proper boy scout when it comes to the state of the city and leave it better than I found it. I particularly enjoy the trails, parks and access to the outdoors that provo enjoys.
I love living in an area that has such great police and first responders that keep our community safe and bring peace to our neighborhoods. As Provo grows I want to support these resources in every way possible to encourage law and order and strongly discourage crime and disorder.
Over the next 4 years I want the product of Provo to stay competitive. I want entrepreneurs, innovators, creatives and businesses to continue to be drawn to our pro business and pro creative climate yoked to a culture of faith, family and freedom. Fiscally conservative, wise regulation, common sense use of resources, active communication with neighborhood leaders, gratitude for the liberty loving families and people who live in the heart of Provo.
Defending Provo's culture into the future. As a long time resident of downtown Provo and homeowner. Conserving the culture that has made Provo so attractive for so many people and businesses is also motivating me to run for city council. Over the next few years experts suggest that Artificial Intelligence will create large dislocations and opportunities in education, job and labor markets, entrepreneurship and the way we stay informed and connect with the people and world around us. I believe that at the core of navigating the next few years it will be Provo's freedom loving, family oriented and faith inspired culture that gives us the greatest chance to navigate the changes and opportunities of the near-term future.
